VBS Week

The week of VBS went by very quickly. On Tuesday we saw a drop in the number of children due to good weather. This is the first week of summer break for the children and therefore they want to go swimming not stay inside and learn english.

Wednesday we saw a doubling in the numbers of children due to a mother bringing all of her fiends and their children. There were 19 children who came and two of them were fluent in english. Their mother said that they did not need the english lessons but because they had so much fun they would return on the next day.

Thursday we had even more chi
ldren as our numbers rose to 22. We were very excited and pleased to see that the children were telling their friends to come. I had a couple of conversations with the mothers of the children. Two of them are christian and were very thankful that we were taking the time to go over the creation week with their children.

Friday we had 22 children again and this time Pastor Takahashi gave the message. I had give the previous four and asked him to talk about the creation of man and the fall. He gave a message that caused many of the mothers to seek out more information afterwards. We also gave the children and their mothers an American lunch of hot dogs.
The crafts all went smoothly except the last day. The craft on friday was to put each child's hands in paint and then to press them to a t-shirt that said God made me. Some of the children made a mess of their paint and the rest were too shy to put their hands in paint. I had one girl hold her hand 2 inches over the paint and then she kept asking "Really?" I had to press her hands in the paint myself. The children managed to keep their cloths clean however, they did manage to get paint on me.

All in all VBS went very well and some of the mothers are now interested in Christianity and the Church. God is working in the hearts of Japanese people, they just take a long time to make a decision about anything.
